I’m sure I’ve been deleted off of many Google readers and I’m really sorry for that. New Years came and of course, the ritual weight loss plan came to mind. Something a little different happened this time, however, and that’s why I’m back here.
I’ve been loyal to my new lifestyle for the past 6 weeks, and I’m here to say that I’m down 16 lbs. It’s a great amount and I just feel so accomplished so far. I started at a not-so-sexy 265 lbs. and I’m right now barely in the 240s at 249 lbs.
Here’s what changed…I joined the YMCA on January 5th. I remember just running the track for a little bit, and decided after 20 minutes, I did way more than enough for a workout. As I was walking around, I noticed a computer where people were logging their workouts. So, on the way out, I asked the front desk lady about the computer. She told me a meeting about it was starting in 5 minutes. So, I walked in sweaty and gross, sat through the orientation with one of the fitness trainers and made an appointment to enroll in Fitlinxx.
What I didn’t realize in my excitement was the criteria to enroll in Fitlinxx. I had to do a fitness assessment with the trainer there, and from then on, she’d give me a workout plan to stick to. I thought, ok, assessment, no big deal. I can run 60 seconds non-stop…I SO got this!
Uhm, I was wrong. WAY WAY wrong. Let’s just put it that way. I was asked by the trainer how I thought I could do an hour of workouts when I couldn’t even climb steps for 3 minutes non-stop. It was very discouraging and while she meant well, it really hurt to hear that. From then on, I started a workout regime that I do at least twice/week. In great weeks, I go 5x/week. It’s great to make the gym part of my life now, and it’s even cooler when I see the results of my work!
For example, I got this surprise email last week from Fitlinxx diagramming my workouts from last month in a real life way! For the month of January, I lifted 3.7 African Elephants worth of weights and worked off 21 ice cream sundaes! Pretty cool right?
As for diet, I’m sticking to Weight Watchers. It’s a good plan and allows me to splurge once in a while, when I want to.
Stay tuned…measurement progress in my next post!
